Did you know?
M. Night Shyamalan's movies are popular for surprise endings.
Unbreakable (2000) is a thriller movie and the first installment in the Unbreakable film series. The series has three movies - Split (2017), Glass (2019) being the other movies. Split was a standalone sequel and I had watched it first. Notwithstanding the excitement, I immediately watched Unbreakable. The film is unique, authentic, and one of its kind.
Favorite dialogues from the Movie:
It's hard for many people to believe that there are extraordinary things inside themselves, as well as others.
When it comes to good action movies, you need a strong characterization for the protagonist and an even stronger characterization for the antagonist. Unbreakable has that formula just perfect. The whole movie is loosely based on comics. We are exposed to two contrasting characters with profound background stories behind them and when both of them meet the story gets intriguing. All other characters are well defined and presented diligently, a showcase of excellence in writing.
Do you see any Teletubbies in here? Do you see a slender plastic tag clipped to my shirt with my name printed on it?
Bruce Willis is stolid and nonchalant in his demeanor and plays out the taciturn role that is stitched out exclusively for him. I could never think of anyone other than Bruce to play the protagonist role with so much ease and comfort. Samuel Jackson is confident, stylish and exuberant in his portrayal and adds a different dimension to the dark and quiet themed film.
Do you know what the scariest thing is? To not know your place in this world, to not know why you're here.
If you haven't been exposed to any spoilers or if you are not so clever, then you are in for a surprise at the climax. Movies that flummox you are the movies that gets into your favorites list. With a gripping story line, interesting and unique plot development and a surprising end, Unbreakable is an authentic and eccentric thriller that will surely make it to your favorites list.
P.S. Don't watch the trailer if you need surprises!
