Donnie Darko is a psychological science-fiction horror thriller film. Yup, you've got hell a lot of genre in this movie and the fascinating aspect is everything is intertwined in the most engrossing manner of filmmaking. Firstly, the movie deludes you in many ways and you need to be very active in observing the minute details that are presented in the most subtlest ways. You surmise certain proceedings that are impending but then the film makes sure it dismisses your hasty assumptions as quickly as possible. Furthermore, characterisation of the protagonist is sincere and incisive making the viewers to hold onto him in every frame. The whole film is a presentation of certain events that unravels in a linear fashion to build up strongly to a surprising and baffling denouement.
Destruction Is A Form Of Creation. . .
Jake Gyllenhaal has done a commendable job in portraying the role of a high school teen who goes thought a lot. I was reading through the Zodiac movie's production story wherein the filmmakers were impressed with Jake's performance in Donnie Darko and picked him up for Zodiac. That's how I ended up watching this film. His demeanour and mannerism in this movie are admirable and unique. Another notable artist in the film is Jena Malone, the pair for Jake. She was really impressive with her performance.

Donnie Darko is a darkly portrayed sensual thriller in a serious tone with no dull moments and is outstanding in it's narration and portrayal.
