Gone Baby Gone is a mystery thriller movie which may test your patience with it's screenplay but has one of the profound endings of all time. The movie started off with an interesting sequence and kept dragging itself into an uncharted area before it got anchored in time for a perspicacious denouement.
Favorite Movie Quotes:
Where I come from, you die with your secrets.
The film begins on an interesting note, with the aid of well renowned exposition tool in Hollywood, a news report. We are given the perspective from the protagonist and the situation brief from the news report. It's a matter of solving the riddles for our protagonist who is upright and pedantic. And we travel along with him in this puzzle solving adventure in a mysterious way. What seemed to be a betrayal at first sight has deeper meaning embedded within and the manner in which it is untangled by the protagonist is what makes the film quite unique experience to watch.
I always believed it was the things you don't choose that makes you who you are.
Evidently, the story slows down midway and kinda tests the patience of viewers. But if you can watch till the end, the movie stands out with it's eccentric climax. The ending is essentially a moral question to both the protagonist and the viewers; what would you do if you were in such a situation? It was indeed surprising to learn and imbibe the undesirable climax as it is but it does leave the open question for us to answer and ruminate.
You are sheep among wolves. Be wise as serpents, yet innocent as doves.
The performance from the cast, which includes Superstar Morgan Freeman, is apt and compelling. I could recognize a lot of TV stars from popular shows like The Wire, The Office, The Sopranos, etc. It was amusing to learn that the lead actor Casey and the director Ben, who also played as Batman, were brothers. The voice over sequences from the lead actor was poignant evoking a dramatic mindset that reminded me of American Beauty.
It was an ignominious end to an illustrious career.
Gone Baby Gone is thrilling, mysterious and has one of the best thought provoking endings of all time. The incisive climax in itself qualifies this movie for a must-watch.
Verdict: One Of The Best Climax!
