Did you know?

A parasitic twin is an identical twin that has stopped developing during gestation, but is physically attached to the fully developing twin. The fully developed twin is also known as the dominant or autosite twin.

Malignant (2021) is a horror thriller film from James Wan, the renowned Horror genre director. Well, I went for this movie with a blank mind, not having watched the trailer even, and I was indeed quite satisfied. Let's look into the movie's overview.

The story begins slowly with an unhurried exposition and meagre characters to reveal. Inciting incident kicks in immediately when our protagonist, a female lead, gets injured. The core element of the movie is absolutely intriguing and is only revealed at the end of the movie. Obviously, the audience are kept wondering who is the antagonist and what's the relationship the antagonist has with the protagonist. If you are smart enough, I am sure you'll figure out earlier than I did, which was only after the story revealed. Yeah, I'm pretty dumb!

Moreover, the movie lacks essential jump scare scenes that are required for a typical horror movie. And I suppose this was because the writers may have preferred to concentrate on the concept rather than the frightening part. Indeed, the concept of this movie is unique and eccentric which would surely leave the viewers with inquisitiveness on the topic. It is one of a kind in horror films.

Furthermore, the climax didn't had a convincing encounter and that was a major drawback. Also, the comedy segment in the interim sequences, although few scenes had enough potential at times, hasn't worked out well and it was a significant let down too. Surely, a couple of comedy scenes would have elevated the film to another level.

To summarise, Malignant is basically a thriller movie with promising horror elements embedded into it and contains a newfangled plot which is fresh for a horror film. Definitely, it's worth watching in theatres. So, don't miss it!

Verdict: Go Watch It Just For The Unique Concept!
